Welcome to bbp’s 2019 tech trends.
Over the next four blogs, we will take a look at the key things you need to know about tech in 2019. Packed with forecasts and facts, this blog series will help you stay ahead of the game this year.
So, without further ado, let’s dive straight into trend one: 5G.
Fast like 5G
Super-speedy ‘fifth-generation’ mobile internet could be launched as early as the start of this year in some countries, promising ultra-fast download speeds, wider coverage and more stable connections. It’s all about making better use of the radio spectrum and enabling far more devices to access the mobile internet at the same time. AR, VR, AI and connected devices like driverless cars all need incredible data speed to actually work on a public network.
“5G is the tech that’s going to make all the new tech that everyone is talking about happen.”1 – Digiday
So, what does this mean for marketers?
Bye bye, loading…
Faster network speeds mean lower page load times, resulting in lower bounce rates, increased click-through rates, better deliverability rates and – oh, yes – greater return on investment.
Insights now… now… and now
5G tech will provide faster data communication, giving marketers real-time insights that can optimise campaigns as they run. R2integrated co-founder and CEO Matt Goddard explains: “If a customer buys milk at the grocery store using their mobile wallet, the wallet tells the TV to not run milk ads later that day”.2
From smart cities to smarter campaigns
5G means so much more than just faster network speeds. As innovations advance, 5G applications are set to expand even further than currently predicted. With more data and more adaptable campaigns, 5G will be an essential tool for all marketers in the coming years.
At a glance: 5G speed is estimated to be around 1000 times faster than 4G. That’s the equivalent of downloading an entire HD film in less than a second!3
We hope you enjoyed the first 2019 tech trends blog. Remember there will be three more coming to a screen (of the smaller kind) near you very soon, so stay tuned.
